Driving in snow is very unlike driving on arid or wet tarmac. It’s a lot easier to lose control of your vehicle. Things to be alert and things to do while driving in snow or on ice.

1. Reduce your speed

When amidst your vehicle and tarmac is layer of snow or ice, forget when it comes to fast driving. Your speed must be adjusted consequently to yours and your vehicle/tyre capablenesses. Do not forget it doesn’t matter how long you have had your driving licence or how a good deal of miles you have driven in your life – because somebody else on a road may endanger you.

2. Increase distance amidst you and other road users.

Almost all of modern cars are equipped with abs which assists you maintain control of your car whilst breaking in slippery conditions. If your car doesn’t have abs attempt and imitate it by pressing and freeing brake pedal with strong and sharp movements. If your car has abs equipped don’t be frightened – just floor it. Also to brakes if your car has manual gearbox you may use that to your vantage by breaking with engine. To do so alter to lower gear gradually but do not forget it only works if you have a good deal of distance to come to a halt.

5. Control your skidding.

If you loose control of your car do not panic and do not make it worse just stay calm. You have to respond instantly by turning steering wheel in opposite direction gently and smoothly – don’t take your hands of the wheel!

As you know dissimilar cars have dissimilar drive trains if your car is:

All- wheel drive (4wd) – it’s harder to make all wheel drive car skid but it’s similarly harder to rectify it. It counts on system and type of your car’s 4wd system and power distribution amidst axles. With 4wd car its dissimilar you have to steer in direction of skidding (rear and front wheel drive cars steer in opposite direction) and remainder throttle by pressing and freeing it gradually.
